Protein: Why? How Much? When?

Why? Because I said so.
How Much? Lots.
When? All the time.

OK enough of that. In all honesty though, protein is an important macro nutrient. It’s found everywhere in your body from your muscle tissue, to enzymes that digest your food, to your skin cells and even in your blood. If you are a body builder or a power lifter, you understand the importance of protein in your diet. The problem I see now amongst the general population of exercisers is the medias push on low fat and low carb stuff. Admittedly, we are becoming more and more knowledgeable in relation to food choices, and the low fat push is definitely diminishing. Optimal protein consumption is a key component of muscle building and a healthy lifestyle, and it’s not just for the big boys.

Carbs: The Truth Behind The Hatred

Low carb eating is in fashion. It’s not necessarily a bad fashion. Generally speaking the population is becoming more knowledgeable about good food choices, what is healthy and what is not. However, most of the time the knowledge of why things are healthy or good habits is simply not there. Carbs are getting a bad name, but not a lot of people really get why. They help your body function and are essential to the diet. You need them…just not too many.

Glycemic Index: Do You Really Understand It?

Low GI- good for your health?

Carbohydrates have taken a major hit over the last few years, with the latest diet craze being to eliminate any form of carbs or you will die a big fat diabetic death. The truth is though, they aren’t so well understood. One of those reasons revolved around the Glycemic Index (GI). I know most of you will be familiar with what it is, it’s splashed around the TV nowadays, it’s on most of your products from the supermarkets, and there is even a GI diet. But what is it, what are its implications for our eating habits, and what does it mean for us fitness freaks?

Health In A Can: Cheap, Tasty & Really Really Good For You

Part of the reason I started this blog was so that I could write on things that I am passionate about. I love researching, talking and discussing everything to do with health and fitness. It impacts a lot on my life, and outside of my Volleyball it’s my main focus. There are certain things I write about because I see a trend in a gym, or in the industry that I want to discuss, clarify or completely discredit. Sometimes I just write about things because I love them. I love Tuna.
