Searching the web for information in the fitness industry I come across a lot of…hmm how do I put it nicely, misinformation. The fitness and health industry is so broad and expanding very quickly everyday. There are so many fads in the industry and people (mainly trainers- many of which are just barely qualified) desperate to make money off them before they get proven that they are just that, a fad. Half of the sites out on the Internet now are so misinformed it’s scary. It amazes me how easily people simply searching for some help, can pick up this information and run with it, sometimes endangering their health, and definitely not getting their desired results. I’m not saying they are gullible, I would do exactly the same thing in a topic I knew very little about, a big part of human nature is trust.

Really the only decent stuff I see out there are from professional organizations or people, and from bloggers who are going through it themselves. There is some great well-researched info out there on blogs by people trying to lose weight, gain some muscle, turn their lifestyle around. That’s fantastic and every time I read this stuff I get excited. These guys have gone through it, they can tell you the crap from the gold and you don’t have to make their mistakes. Wonderful!

So the inspiration for this site? Well, heres a bit of my background and you will see. My name is Lauren; I am a Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer from Australia. I am qualified through the simple Kinect Australia Accreditation, but I have also completed a degree in Human Movement, and am currently completing a Masters Degree in Strength and Conditioning by correspondence. Why correspondence? Well, I am an athlete. Specifically, I play Volleyball professionally in Europe. Sounds pretty glamorous I know but what it does entail is a lot of time in between trainings during the day, hence me searching on the net and checking out all these blogs. Before I started playing professionally and while I was training hard for not much reward in Australia, I worked part time as a Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer in many gyms. Here I began to see a lot of the mis-information that is floating around, especially amongst some of the less dedicated trainers. I saw how easily this is passed down onto gym goers and I spent a lot of my time fixing up programs and re-educating. I want to make it clear, I am not bagging trainers, I am one myself, and like me, there are some great ones out there. But in all honesty it is not the best industry for quality training and there is a lot of crap.

So back to why I’m starting this blog. Well of course I have been through it all, I’ve tackled my own weight loss, fitness issues (just because I am an athlete doesn’t mean these simple things don’t dominate my life as well) and changed my eating habits. Mainly though, I want to give people a reference site for some quality information, and some heads up on what is some pretty bad mis information. Hopefully along the way it is fun and interesting for us both. I tossed up whether to make a simple info site that would grow over time, but I thought a blog would be more personal and I would be able to tackle some questions and different issues with it. At the end of the day though, I have a lot of time free, and I may as well use that time wisely while I can’t be out in the field fixing programs and re-educating.

I just found this website by searching Fascia. I’ve been in pain for years and nobody could figure it out! after reading this article I now know where and why I have the pain. it’s mostly the hip, glutes, down to the feet. I went to a massage therapist and she really did a great job in working the fascia. I will continue to see her for improvement. I will also incorporate what I learned in your 3 part series about fascia.
    thank you!

Obrigado, Cassius – Uberlandia MG – Brasil
