Recently I did a circuit/ aerobics class. I’ll be honest, I can’t say I get around to doing them much. For no other reason than I simply don’t have time. I am an athlete, and my training revolves around things that are going to make me a better athlete. There are more efficient things that can be done.
I think they are great workouts, and have a place in the fitness industry. You get a full body workout, in a short amount of time, with someone motivating you. Sounds good to me.
I didn’t want to go to my class. It was a compulsory team activity, and was to be done right before our Christmas party….and it was our last training. It’s been a long year and I was keen to get out of there. So I went in with a pretty bad attitude. I did everything asked of me, 100% no worries. But I didn’t put in as I could have. It led me to think, if I can get away with doing it half arsed, didn’t even break a sweat, when I should have been dripping… then what are all the other un- motivated people out there doing? We lifted, we danced, we jumped. I just lifted very lightly, danced fairly unenthusiastically, and jumped…well, not so high.
Classes are great, I encourage everyone to add them into their routines for a bit of variety. But be weary. If you do the workout, and thought it was pretty easy, make it harder for yourself next time. Don’t walk away from it thinking, phew, now I have burnt those calories I can go and get stuck into dinner. A class is what you make it…and only you. Work hard, or you are simply wasting your money and precious time.

hey,
I agree, it is what you make of it, but i’ve found on those days when i’m not very motivated, being in the class environment can encourage me do at least get a half arsed workout done. Whereas, if i was training alone I would be more inclined to pack up and go home.
